To Tucson Roller Derby fans, friends, community and family –
The Tucson Roller Derby Board of Directors would like you all to know that we take the health and safety of our skaters, officials, non-skating officials, volunteers and fans very seriously.
With heavy hearts, Tucson Roller Derby has currently suspended all scrimmages and practices through the end of the month. It is our responsibility to keep our skaters, refs, NSOs, and volunteers as safe as we can. We also believe that TRD has a civic duty to do what we can as a league to mitigate health risks to communities outside of our own, by following all recommendations for physical distancing in this uncertain time.
In addition to suspending league practices, we must also postpone the Dust Devil Invitational Tournament. This tournament has been so essential to our league for years, but in light of the current situation, there is no other option. All participating leagues, officials, and volunteers have been notified. We have the intention of rescheduling this event for the fall, pending our capacity as well as WFTDA decisions regarding sanctioned games for the remainder of the season. While things are still uncertain, we hope for Dust Devil to still be an event to look forward to later in the year.
Our hearts are with everyone in the derby community who has been, and continues to be, affected by COVID-19, and we stand in solidarity with you.
